Joy Of Discipline Program

Dear Ken:

Thank you for bringing the Joy of Discipline Program to Rose Hill School. In the few months that you have worked with our students, I have been pleased with the results.

First, and most important, the children have learned many positive values through your efforts. Patience, diligence and respect for themselves and other are reflected in all your lessons. This thoroughly supports the attention to character development provided by our staff and parents. In a few cases, your influence has been profound and has gone beyond what we have been able to do. You have given these children clear, rigorous expectations, measurable success and the motivation to learn something difficult.

In addition to the benefits to the children, I appreciate the ways in which you have welcomed our staff and made yourself available to me and to teachers. In this way, we learned about your program and you learned about our school and students. I am delighted with your willingness to provide resources and training for the adults in our community as well.

Finally, the response from parents has been overwhelmingly positive. The final session, during which families viewed what the children learned, was most impressive.
The opportunity to listen to Master Rhee added to the impact of the occasion.

Thank you for your commitment to our students for the excellent quality of your work with them. I look forward to continuing this relationship and appreciate the many benefits it brings to our children and community.

Sincerely

Dr. Marcy Mager, School Principal

RE: Joy of Discipline
HUTCHISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Dear Ken:
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your hard work and dedication to our students at HUTCHISON. The Joy of Discipline program has not only benefited the children, but also provided parents with the opportunity to participate in an after school activity with their children.

It is inspirational to observe children and adults learning together. I am hopeful that the respect and self-control you impress on these young children will remain with them and guide them through their lives. You're strong, motivational but patient demeanor presents a valuable role model for our youth. In addition, I greatly appreciate your ability to remain flexible, yet consistent with the implementation of the program.

I look forward to the commencement of the next session. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way. I strongly believe in what you are teaching our youth and the way in which you are presenting it. My goal is to encourage these activities by helping you become a part of our school community.

Reference Three

As a single parent I am especially grateful to Master Ken Carlson, whose excellent work with my kids help them understand discipline is not what is done to you but is a tool to help you reach your own goals and dreams, and parents and school teachers are not your prison-keepers keeping you from the joys of life, but are your cheerleaders trying to help you learn how to achieve the very best you can accomplish.

All three of my children - daughter Kara and sons Jason and Lee, think the world of Master Carlson, and more important, they now carry his lesson for life: that there is Joy in Discipline, and that reaching for your goals is much more fun, than just watching others reach for their dreams on TV.

This is the only program I have ever heard of where the parent is allowed to come right out on the floor and participate in the program with the kids. My kids have enjoyed basketball, cheerleading, football, soccar, baseball - but only your program allowed - or should I say encouraged - Dad and kids to play and work together to accomplish our goals.

Thank you and God bless you for what you have done for my three kids, and for my much improved relationship with them. I can't recommend this program strongly enough to other parents and to teachers who wouldn't mind having a helping hand for them in teaching their students that there is indeed, a "Joy of Discipline."

Dear Master Carlson:

I am writing to express my sincerest appreciation for all you have done for the students of Clearview Elementary who are involved in the Joy of Discipline Program.
Over the course of the year I have observed a significant change in the positive attitudes displayed by each of the students.

As a parent, I am also impressed at how well the confidence, discipline, and self control you instill carries beyond your classroom I have noticed a positive change in my son Bradley's behavior both at home and at school since he began this program in September.

I am also pleased with the way you stress alternative means for handling conflict and peer pressure. These kids now have the ability to make good choices about their safety, as well as others' when faced with a difficult or potentially physical situation.

I enjoy participating in your program as well. I feet that this program has a lot to offer to parents, as well as the students. First, it gives parents an opportunity to learn something new along with their child. Second, it is an excellent form of physical fitness. I look forward to the work-outs I get in your class each week. Finally, I feel that my confidence has improved relative to my ability to defend myself if necessary. As a professional woman, I often have to travel alone on business to different cities and am glad that I know my options should I ever find myself in a compromising situation.

Again, I cannot stress enough how pleased I am that you brought the Joy of Discipline Program to Clearview Elementary. Both Bradley and I look forward to continuing the program in the next school year.

Keep up the good work, and have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Joan Wirth
